Lake Union Conference

President

Don Livesay
President

Along with the other Union Officers, the president is responsible for coordinating the overall mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the territory surrounding Lake Michigan, which includes the states of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and a portion of Minnesota. The five local conferences in the territory are Illinois, Indiana, Lake Region, Michigan, and Wisconsin. He is the chief executive officer among the other elected officers, and is ultimately responsible for the work of all departments within the Lake Union organization.

The president is a member of many Lake Union, North American Division, and General Conference boards and committees in a coordinating and representative role. The president assists at local conference constituency meetings, and helps develop conference management policies. The president meets with local conference committees to further church unity and mission, and is available as an advisor to conference, college, and university presidents, and serves as vice chair of the Andrews University Board of Trustees.

The president is also a member of the Adventist Health System board, which operates 36 hospitals, 19 extended-care facilities, and numerous home health and hospice agencies. It is the largest not-for-profit protestant hospital system in the country. The president is also vice chair of the Adventist Midwest Health board, a subsidiary of the Adventist Health System corporate board. With Christ as their example, Adventist Health System employees and physicians reach out to touch the hearts and heal the lives of more than 4 million patients each year.

Including the other officers, the president is responsible to the Lake Union Headquarters Executive Committee and to the Constituency, and indirectly to the North American Division and the General Conference. The Lake Union officers all sit on numerous boards and committees where they give counsel and serve as a voice for the Lake Union.

Lake Union Executive Committee

Duties —Between meetings of the Lake Union Constituency, the Lake Union Executive Committee has administrative power to act on behalf of the constituency. The Lake Union Executive Committee appoints Union leaders and committees, fills vacancies, grants and withdraws credentials and licenses, and transacts such executive business as is in harmony with Union, Division, and General Conference policies. The Lake Union Executive Committee meets three times each year: February, May, and November.

Membership —Some people are members of the executive committee automatically because they have been elected to certain positions of leadership in the Lake Union. These positions include the Union officers, vice president and associate treasurer, local Conference presidents and one officer, Andrews University president, and the president of Adventist Midwest Health.
In addition, additional representation is selected from the field giving careful attention to making sure the committee includes ethnic, gender, geographic, and lay/pastor balance.
